The Creative Hub presents at MELT Forum Nina Johanna Rantala (NORD-T, Finland)

MELT Forum will be held in Tallinn Creative Hub on Tuesday, 30 May. The Creative Hub is happy to announce that 30 May 13:45—14:30 Nina Johanna Rantala, entrepreneur and a traveler (NORD-T, Finland) will give a talk ”Export – design it in your DNA” at the forum! The talk will be held in English.

Nina Johanna Rantala

Entrepreneur and a traveler of 30+ countries, who after living in Costa Rica, India, and China decided to settle in a coffee drinking country and make tea. Today, her love for the Finnish forests is channeled through NORD-T – a startup that has only nine months in the retail business and already sells products in seven countries. Nina knows people are people everywhere, and borders in business should be no more than lines on a map.

NORD-T

NORD-T was born when two childhood friends wanted to change how tea was done. Now the company makes handcrafted tea blends in Helsinki from raw materials that are grown by the most skillful farmer of them all – Mother Nature, and then picked to be in your teacup. NORD-T tea blends tell the story of northern forests, with no added nonsense or additives. More info: https://nord-t.com

Nina Johanna Rantala: “We think of nordicness – in addition to using ingredients grown in our beautiful forests – is making things that are beautifully functional.”

Dagmar Kase (D.K.): You have said that Nord-T was born when two childhood friends wanted to change how tea was done. What exactly did/do you want to make differently? What are your ways to prepare the perfect cup of tea?

Nina Johanna Rantala (N.J.R.): We got served really bad tea in places that knew how to make a decent cup of coffee. So we started to show them how brewing a cup of tea was not that hard. You just need loose leaf tea, water that is not too hot, and a few minutes of brewing to get a really good cup of tea. Next we noticed, tea blends offered in the market are filled with aromas and other nonsense, like additives. We decided we will start making tea blends that have none of that – all the ingredients are grown by Mother Nature, nothing in our teas are manufactured in laboratories.

D.K.: You have also said that nordicness is a quintessential part of Nord-T teas. What does nordicness mean to you?

N.J.R.: It’s the simplicity of things, like I said before – removing nonsense. We think of nordicness – in addition to using ingredients grown in our beautiful forests – is making things that are beautifully functional.

D.K.: Any recommendations for people who are not yet tea drinkers?

N.J.R.: Yes, I can say to you to start experiencing! Tea is like wine – there is a grape, or in this case a leaf, for everyone’s taste palate. And secondly, do not “burn” the tea with boiling water! All loose leaf teas taste better when brewed in lower temperature water.
