Eve Kruuse | Solo exhibition: ‘Being present in the moment’
A fleeting moment, the blink of an eye, a split second, an instant is an undefined period of time in everyday language. In neuropsychology it is understood as a subjective timeframe required in order to perceive the present, something we refer to as ‘now’.
The art of being present is all about paying attention to what you are currently doing. Begin by discarding any distractions and being completely present in the current moment. Right here, right now. Be where you are at this moment. Use your senses. See. Only see: do not attribute meaning. Notice the light, colours, textures; sense the room around you; listen to the voices. Do not judge.
Can you pinpoint the moment when a growing tree becomes strong enough, big enough to prevent the window from closing? The moment something has irreversibly changed? Are we present in the moment when a drop of water falls off an oar back into the river, or are we really pondering Monday’s meeting?
Life means that these split seconds should be enjoyed. Living through the moment is surviving. If we keep holding on to certain things, we prevent other things from happening. Sometimes you just have to let go and seek the essence of life in this great adventure, find your voice. That is what living in the moment gives you. You will see that it is not the end result that matters, but the adventurous journey.
