The world seems to be moving at an ever-increasing pace and policymakers around it are constantly facing challenges regarding the use of new and emerging innovative solutions, and startups are facing the challenge of how to best scale internationally. This is why the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU has teamed up with the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) to bring startup ecosystem leaders and policymakers from 60+ countries and the best of the Estonian startup community together to discuss and learn about these topics.
Policymakers and startups across the globe will have discussions on how new and emerging technologies can promote innovation as well as a few case studies on how some governments have been able to innovate at an elevated pace by providing technological advances and thus giving a helping hand to entrepreneurs. The Startup Track will show entrepreneurs how to make scaling internationally work, how to lobby, and provide lots of opportunities for great networking.
The summit will also present a fascinating ‘Policy Hack’ feature that several governmental delegations will take part in. We invite them to step into the shoes of a startup for a day and test their policy with their peers, as well as startups. The result will be a validated and implementable policy. The centrepiece policy tool, the wonders of which will be revealed to policymakers, is called a ‘regulatory sandbox’, an innovative but underused format of dialogue between regulators and enterprises. The importance of the ‘regulatory sandbox’ has also been underlined in the Commission communication on startups.
The Startup Nations Summit is organised by the Global Entrepreneurship Network and the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications along with the European Commission, Startup Estonia, EIT Digital, Dell and the Kauffman Foundation.
